The skin around my nail is gone. how do i fix this?

for this past month the skin around my nail is gone. i dont know why. the white part of my nail is getting bigger and bigger too. i dont know why this is happening but im scared and want to know what caused this. i also want to fix this but what do i do? Maybe you smashed it somehow? Otherwise, sounds like some kind of infection. You should see a doctor.
